I was chatting with a friend the other night while playing Power Wash Simulator and eventually the discussion got onto the topic of Final Fantasy XIV (as it often does). The general conversation was about how FFXIV tells its story vs. other games (coughdestinycough), and at one point it turned to primal summoning.
Another bit of important context is that I just finished the Omega and Eden raids back-to-back. I was struck by how much both raids deal with ideas around memory, history and the way it’s recorded, and turning destructive power towards peaceful ends, and I guess that all kind of got caught up in our talk about primals. Anyway, it got me thinking about how cool it would be to see primals used in ways that don’t have anything to do with being weapons of war/pure forces of chaos.
We’ve seen so many different technologies and philosophies around the use of aether and dynamis to record, preserve and create at this point that it wouldn’t be a stretch for the Warrior of Light and the Scions to come across an as-yet-unmet group or culture that uses primals, the summoning process and even tempering to do something like pass down shared cultural/civilizational knowledge. It might be a shadow of the Amaurotines’ creation magicks, but it would be wild to me that no person or group on the Source ever learned how to do summons in a safe way for peaceful purposes.
This could even be a great setup for initial conflict between the WoL and this group, on account of our main mission (now that the world is saved) being to put a stop to primal summonings. That tension would be super fun to explore!
I know deep in my bones that CBU3 wouldn’t do this tho.
