There’s this extremely funny tendency among a very specific type of leftist where they pretend to be the most working class and the most connected to struggles in the global south and to be the most engaged in The Struggle Against Imperialism and then sneer at any nearby leftist/radical person who isn’t “on their level.”
“Oh you’re focused on queer issues like making sure trans kids don’t get bullied out of public life by legislators three to four times their age? Heh, good luck getting the steel mill workers I’m definitely unionizing (despite being a perpetual grad student) to back you up. Don’t you know identity politics is alienating to REAL working people?”
“Oh you’re trying to organize a tenants union in your neighborhood? That’s cute and all, but you should really be focused on [insert random country], you really must develop an internationalist outlook or you won’t have any comrades at all.”
“Wow. wow. I can’t believe you just drank an RC Cola. Don’t you know their parent company (Dr. Pepper) supports AMERICAN IMPERIALISM?”
