Hire Other Fucking People Please
Saw this tweet yesterday, and it got me thinking about how kinda fucked the media landscape is right now.
Just, aside from the fact that media orgs would do so, so much better in general if they stopped exclusively hiring from the coasts, here’s the big problem that I’ve noticed.
There’s not a media vacuum here, in Oklahoma. It’s just that when “progressive” or even standard media decides it doesn’t want anything to do with us, conservative, even downright cultish media will take its place. Y’all flip out about Fox News but it’s my legitimate opinion that Sinclair Broadcasting might be the scariest fucking media company on the planet. The propaganda they feed to local stations on the down-low is startling.
And they’re able to do this with impunity. Because there’s no market, no competition. Rather than coming to where the journalists are, media companies are fine with demanding that everyone comes to them instead. It’s embarrassing.
But anyway, I hope something changes soon. Things are already pretty unsustainable.
