So yeah. Anyway, it’s a balmy ten degrees fahrenheit/negative-twelve degrees celsius in central Oklahoma where I live. People are freezing to death up and down the plains, the pipes in their houses are bursting, causing floods and destroying their possessions, and our state governments have seen fit to do utter fuck about any of the immediate issues that need to be rectifiedin this winter weather disaster.
I’ve been exceedingly lucky so far in that we’ve managed to more or less keep shit heated to about 65-68 degrees, haven’t had any blackouts and aren’t completely snowed in. But that could change at any moment. I was – and am – radically unprepared for this bitterly cold storm that brought temperatures down to negative fifteen fucking degrees a day or two ago, and frankly I’m scared shitless. I’m also absolutely fucking livid at the natural gas industry and the power companies who are doing everything they can to fuck individuals and families over on their power bills next month as a result of this terrifying shit.
Over in video games, there’s a guy who is definitely not connected to the US Military trying to make a pro-US propaganda game about the heavily-criminal Battle of Fallujahthat is explicitly all about how brave and heroic US and coalition troops were. When they were committing all the war crimes. It will not be political. It will feature new and different perspectives. It will not feature the use of white phosphorus or depleted uranium.
Video games have been a perfect medium for interactive pro-military propaganda since 2001, but we rarely come face-to-ass with something that proclaims to tell the unvarnished truth and then proceeds to… well, whitewash history. The closest (before the game I’m currently talking about) was Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
I watched Dr. Strangelove for the first time last night and I’m fucking terrified. How are you?
